                             Class Dojo
This year we will be using Class Dojo in our classroom. This will be our classroom management tracker for the year. Class Dojo is an awesome tool to encourage working together, responsibility, and being prepared. It is an easy way to instantly see your student’s behavior in class. Students will be rewarded points for displaying their awesome behavior. You will also be able to see the skills they need to work on. I would like all families to join our classroom community and sign up for Class Dojo! Once I have your e-mail address,
I will send an invite. You can then confirm and set up an account. It is very simple:

Download the free mobile app for iOS and Android, and you can view from any computer at www.classdojo.com. For more information go to www.classdojo.com/LearnMore.

Students Entering Second Grade – Summer Reading and Math Assignment

    Reading Assignment

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am delighted to have your student in my classroom this year and look forward to experiencing a new school year with him/her as their second-grade teacher. My commitment as an educator will be to provide them with a nurturing and challenging educational environment that will ensure their academic success in the second grade.  During the summer many students fall victim to the “summer slide” and lose valuable reading skills they have worked so hard to gain this year! So, as their second-grade teacher, I ask that you help in encouraging them to keep reading, thinking, and growing by participating in the summer reading assignment.
    Students are to:

    • Pick 3 books or more from the reading list.
    • Enjoy reading these great books.
    • Track your reading on the calendars included in the packet.
    • Complete the activity pages for the three books selected.
    • Bring the completed reading activities to your new teacher when school starts in September.
Most of the suggested reading list books are part of a series, so if your child likes a book they have read, encourage them to read more from that series or author.

And, be sure to participate in your child’s reading.
    • Have them read out loud to you
    • Ask who, what, when, where why & how questions about their book.
    • Ask them to tell you about their favorite parts and characters or how they relate to the story.

Summer is the perfect time to keep building and deepening math understanding! Our classroom has been using Zearn Math this year, and this summer your child will experience learning with Zearn Math’s interactive Digital Lessons while school is out. To access Zearn Math over the summer, your child will need a computer or iPad with an internet connection, headphones, and Student Notes (which you will find as an attachment to be printed and work on with the digital lessons.) Please find attached their log-in tags where you can locate your child’s login information along with a summer learning goal below for them to focus on, so they can be ready for the incoming school year.  To access Zearn Math, visit www.zearn.org and have your student enter their username and password.
